String Ensemble
String Ensemble is our foundational group where young musicians learn the skills necessary to play in an orchestra.  Our members are elementary and middle school students who are relatively new to their instruments (playing the equivalent of Suzuki books 1-3).  The techniques we work on are meant to build on what students learn with their private teachers: scales, listening, musical independence, and by the end of the year, shifting and vibrato.  We play music in a variety of styles including classical, pop, fiddle and jazz.  While some students are fortunate enough to have an orchestra to play in at school, this is many of our musicians' first opportunity to perform with a group; we aim to make it a positive learning experience that students will want to continue to be a part of year after year as they grow and make friends through music.
